The same concept as a ditty bag is a pillowcase that has a drawstring. This doubles as a bag in the event that a child needs to leave their home unexpectedly.
And speaking of pillowcases…. for many years pillowcase dresses have been a popular donation project for churches and overseas collections. Or even for that sweet niece or neighbor down the block.
Lap Quilts are a great way to use up scraps, extra fabrics and test out different patterns. The typical size of a lap quilt is 23 inches x 27 inches for small and 30 inches x 32 inches for large.
Lap quilts are made using everything from quilting fabric to flannel or fleece. We’ve attached a neat “quilt as you go” pattern as an easy way to make your quilt in fewer steps but just as comfy!
A nice feature is a small pocket for your hands in the lap of the quilt. These done a variety of ways but so thoughtful!
Wheelchair lap quilts often have mitered corners to avoid getting tangled in the wheels. Sometimes a pocket at the bottom is created for cold toes!

The purpose of these quilts is to keep residents’ hands busy and their minds active and calm through sensory stimulation.
